philosophical perspectives in HUNGER GAMES trilogy….

t

There are much learnings in Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games Trilogy which contains comprehensive course of life that provides lesson on literature and philosophy as well. It explores human values interspersing psychological, moral and social elements that Collins enchants the readers by casting spell of her unbounded imagination. It applies the philosophical perspectives of some of the world’s greatest minds such as Charles Darwin, Thomas Hobbes, Friedrich Nietzsche, Plato and Immanuel Kant. The state of nature, war, celebrity, authenticity, sacrifice, altruism, moral choice and social class are the key elements in the said philosophical perspectives reflective in the book series.

r

It also attempts to unearth her experiences reflective of her literary principles and techniques. Brilliantly-poignant, she produced a desired effect to the readers about morality redemption, courage and sacrifice that her interesting characters offer.  Her characters run deep and passionate who sublimate the injustices and tyranny of a merciless and corrupt government.  A relentless and high-minded writer, she wrote about philosophical interpretation of life that deserves to be read any time, any place and any race. She wrote with silent passion wherein the numerous aspects of human experiences are exceptionally amplified in her works.

Hunger Games Trilogy renders us the rich and meaningful landscape of literary milieu within the bounds of young adult fiction. It gives us facts and ideas about the pressing problems that beset people worldwide. It may not provide absolute truths, but it forces the readers to reflect about the critical issues by posing disconcerting questions about divisive ideologies and the extreme inequalities that are emblematic of the modern world. Socio-political theme are the mere constructs of her writings which satisfy the crave of both readers and critics of what a work of fiction ought to be. Her book series stimulate critical thinking and mold minds which allow people to question government and how it affects their lives.

While this maybe true, her stories show her unsurpassing skill in writing that brings out a different side of portraying a character in a story. Katniss Everdeen has become an icon on the researcher’s life for her characterization constitutes a deepening emotional overtones as reflected by her struggle as a bread-winner and caregiver of her family. In a similar vein, Collins develops explicit connection with the researcher through a unique narrative technique which is pin down to one single interpretation. More importantly, Katniss, the major character gets inside the researcher’s skin and sets her forth on her own terms. In this sense, she participates in the events and empathizes with the characters upon reading those materials.

Her fictions are colored by all dark tints of luxurious imagination wherein she calculates intelligently the psychological effects to her readers. The development of her plot is well-handled accentuated by powerfully-imaged setting which is Panem’s twelve districts. Above all else, her storyline is of striking interest and unforgettable plot. She manipulates stories excellently creating a maximum interest for the readers with emphasis on the characters. The plot and character proceed at a breathless pace and still delivers a delicate sensibility which is illuminated by its texts. Truly so, the Hunger Games trilogy is engagingly-read, exquisitely-written and virtually-impressive in a larger scale.

In the book of Michaud and Irwin (2012) they wrote,

Love proves to be integral towards keeping

Katniss alive. She survived the difficult times

following her father’s death because she had

Prim to look after. Her love for her sister and

her mother, though less explicitly is what helps

her to stay strong as a provider for the family.

She finds dignity in her poverty and her ability

to survive it through her hunting and gathering

skills. The stoic strength this identity has

given her provides the philosophy she

thinks will help her succeed in the games.

In some inexplicable way, her themes are flooded with angst, pain, madness, loss, death, courage, love, unity and triumph. Moreso, it excoriates a complex and wide sensitivity among young adult fictions. Nevertheless, a one great writer she will always be who can influence many writers to develop a unique and original style of writing. To add, she delivers a satisfying literary appetite to the readers that has artistic, intellectual and spiritual value per se.
